However, it can be very restrictive and remaining on a diet that focuses on eliminating carbohydrates often excludes many natural nutrient and antioxidant rich foods. These are vital for wellness and may aid in disease and cancer prevention, also sandwiches with no bread are not sandwiches. Low Carb diets are tough, but helpful.

For me, raising my level of physical activity was also key. These days I try to spend more time kayaking, bowling and training my dogs. In addition to the exercise, I have found that spending more time outdoors keeps me in a better attitude for pursuing my dieting strategies.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340570.post-23890475719782864322008-09-01T09:11:00.000-07:002008-09-01T09:39:12.660-07:00Splenda, Stevia, Aspartame Which Sweetener is Best?It is really getting tough to choose how to sweeten my coffee these days. I had to read up on the subject a little more. Having no close relatives suffering through diabetes, I never thought about such things as considering the Glycemic Index (GI) of foods when planning a meal.

I was surprised to learn that BEANS are not just cheap they are also one of nature’s lowest GI foods. Adding legumes (fancy word for beans - latin for booty breeze) to your diet, may place nearby smokers at risk, but it will also reduce the overall GI of your diet. This is due to elements of the bean that cause slower digestion. It would appear that the belly song the infamous 'musical fruit' plays is a fairly slow song!

In fact, a study from Vanderbilt University Medical Centre and the Shanghai Cancer Institute found that Chinese women who ate legumes reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by huge amounts. (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition January 2008)

Beans and Cornbread are now health food for Low GI diets. Grandma was right, you are what you eat."
Because GI ranks carbohydrates according to their effect on our blood glucose (sugar) levels, Barclay said it's not surprising to find a link between high GI diet and diabetes. "If you have constantly high blood glucose (sugar) and insulin levels due to a high GI diet, you may literally 'wear out' your pancreas over time. Eventually it may lead to type 2 diabetes in older age."
He was more surprised by the "strong relationship" between GI and some of the other common diseases. "There's good evidence from the studies that have been done that high GI diets are linked to cancer as well. This is because constant spikes in blood glucose that cause the body to release more insulin also increase a related substance called 'insulin like growth factor one' (IGF-1).
"Both these hormones increase cell growth and decrease cell death, and have been shown to increase the risk of developing cancer.

Full Article:

http://www.news-medical.net/?id=36017Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340570.post-40440172704720961672008-02-27T13:33:00.001-08:002008-03-11T14:11:22.193-07:00Aspartame Still Gives Me Hypoglycemic SymptomsAs I stated before, following my throat surgery, my Hypoglycemic symptoms were greatly reduced, one symptom trigger still remains, Aspartame still gives me the low sugar shakes and headaches.

My body reacts to Aspartame like it has been poisoned, I get weak, shaky, have headaches and sometimes I even get sick to my stomach.

I can still use Saccharin “Sweet and Low” and I also can use Sucralose “Splenda” without getting these symptoms, however I am concerned that these sweeteners are also very bad for my health.

Articles I found:

Splenda is an artificial sweetener made from a chemical compound that includes chlorine. Because of my pecan fetish I decided to grow my own pecans and in 2006 I planted 23 pecan trees. Of the 23 trees 20 were Stuart pecan trees and 3 were James pecan trees. The James trees are suppose to be better pollinators

The first trees from TyTy Nursery in the state of Georgia. The trees arrived without dirt and with very little roots. I planted the trees in October following their directions and had 20 of the original 23 survive until a hard frees came the following March.

Regardless of watering the lack of roots and the hard freeze killed all but 6 trees.

This year I found 6 very health looking Stuart pecan trees at Wal-Mart. It was all they had at my local Wal-Mart, but I’m going to check the other Wal-Mart’s in my area.

As for the original trees from TyTy Nursery, after 10 phone calls and 8 months I finally reached a person who said they were the boss. This boss who would only give me his first name, stated unless I pay $143.46 more for shipping, they would not ship me replacements.

The original 23 trees without dirt were wrapped together in a single package that weighed maybe 3 pounds.

This is after I’ve spent many hours dealing with their staff. They lost my first Return Authorization, then they said they had to let their RA person go, so I had to start over again, and finally they told me to bend over again if I wanted to gamble on more of their trees. No thanks!

Just a warning, do not buy from TyTy nurseries unless you want to throw your money away.

TyTy nursery is bad.

The Nursery at TyTy also does business as:
Blackberry Plant Nursery
African Amaryllis Bulb Nursery
Apple Tree Nursery
Bunch and Seedless Grape Vine Nursery
Pecan Tree Nursery
Tree Nursery
Aaron's Bulb Farm(part & parcel of TyTy) also does business as:
Aaron's Amaryllis & Canna Bulb Farm Nursery
Arron's Flower, Tree, and Shrub Nursery
Arron's Nursery with other listings
Aaron's Bamboo Nursery
Aaron's Daffodil Nursery
Aaron's Leucojum, Tuberose, and Eucomis Nursery
Aaron's Allium Nursery
Aaron's Clivia Nursery
Aaron's Agapanthus Nursery
Aaron's Elephant Ear Nursery
Aaron's Ariod Nursery
Aaron's Iris Nursery
Aaron's Ginger Lily Nursery
Aaron's Hymenocallis Nursery
Aaron's Crinum Lily Nursery
Aaron's Banana Tree Nursery
Aaron's Perennial Nursery
Arron's Fruit Nursery
Apple Tree Nursery
Blackberry Nursery
Blueberry Nursery
Fig Tree Nursery
Grape Vine Nursery
Pecan Tree Nursery
Peach Tree Nursery
Persimmon Tree Nursery
Plum Tree Nursery
Citrus Tree Nursery
Pear Tree Nurser

"I have been doing some research on TyTy nursery and I only wish I had done it before I ordered from them.
Eating low-fat dairy products may help slightly lower the risk of developing diabetes, a new study of more than 40,000 middle-aged men suggests.

Each additional serving of low-fat dairy per day resulted in a 9 percent drop in risk. The link could be due to whey proteins or magnesium, ingredients thought to enhance the action of insulin in regulating blood sugar. But those ingredients are contained in high-fat dairy products, too, so researchers said they don't really know what caused the drop in risk. They cautioned against making major changes in diet based on the study.

Confirming the beliefs of the late Dr. Adkins, the researchers now believe that a high carb intake might stimulate the appetite.

In a study appearing in yesterday's Annals of Internal Medicine, Temple researchers found that people on low-carb regimens such as the Atkins diet spontaneously reduced their calories by 30 per cent despite being offered unlimited helpings of protein-rich, high-fat foods such as red meat.

On average, they cut out 1000 calories a day when restricted to bird-like portions of carbs. This study was funded by the American Diabetes Association and the National Institutes of Health.
Citing a lack of scientific evidence to support low-carbohydrate diet claims, Health Canada plans to ban food and drink labels that tout low carbohydrates.
The labeling rules will go into effect in December 2005 for large companies and in 2007 for smaller companies selling food products in Canada, the Toronto Star reported.

Now, the people who taught chubby Americans to eat the burgers but hold the buns, are now working to help with the prevention and control of type 2 diabetes. The latest book from the empire founded by the late cardiologist Robert C. Atkins is: Atkins Diabetes Revolution ($25.95).

It is written by Mary C. Vernon, a family physician and vice president of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, and Jacqueline A. Eberstein, a registered nurse and nutrition counselor who worked with Atkins for 29 years. Around 90 percent of U.S. diabetics have type 2 diabetes.

The disease occurs when the body is unable to produce enough insulin and use it effectively to move glucose, a type of sugar, from the blood into cells, where it is used for energy. This condition is made worse by obesity and inactivity. Another 16 million people have what is known as pre-diabetes, a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not quite high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. Many of these pre-diabetics are likely to progress to full-blown diabetes in a few years.

Vernon says the Atkins method of low carb dieting can help improve the life of existing diabetes sufferers. It introduces a blood sugar control program that authors say can prevent diabetes as well as limit the need for medication among those who have the disease. An American Diabetes Association study presented in June showed that, on average, type 2 patients following the Atkins diet program had improved insulin sensitivity and glycemic control and improved cholesterol profiles, including decreasing triglyceride levels (the fat) in the blood.

The suits allege that the food companies committed fraud and breach
of warranty by marketing products with the full knowledge that
aspartame, the sweetener in them, is neurotoxic.

According to the plaintiffs, aspartame is a drug masquerading as an
additive. It interacts with other drugs and is a chemical hyper-
sensitization agent. Aspartame, it has been alleged, causes headache,
memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma and cancer. In addition, it
worsens or mimics the symptoms of such diseases and conditions as
fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue
and depression.

Experts have been quoted as saying that aspartame liberates free
methyl alcohol. The resulting chronic methanol poisoning affects the
dopamine system of the brain causing addiction. Methanol, or wood
alcohol, constitutes one-third of the aspartame molecule and is
classified as a severe metabolic poison and narcotic. Further, the
consumption of aspartame can cause sudden death brought about by the
damage it inflicts on the cardiac conduction system.
