Avoid Diabetes by Switching to Low-fat Dairy Products

New Diabetes Research Findings
Eating low-fat dairy products may help slightly lower the risk of developing diabetes, a new study of more than 40,000 middle-aged men suggests.

Each additional serving of low-fat dairy per day resulted in a 9 percent drop in risk. The link could be due to whey proteins or magnesium, ingredients thought to enhance the action of insulin in regulating blood sugar. But those ingredients are contained in high-fat dairy products, too, so researchers said they don't really know what caused the drop in risk. They cautioned against making major changes in diet based on the study.

FDA Approves New Lizard Derived Shot For Diabetes Treatment

More good news for those suffering from diabetes!

The makers of the new drug, Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly & Co., said the lizard shot would begin selling by June 1 for an undisclosed price.

Type 2 diabetics got a new option to help control their blood sugar Friday, a drug derived from the saliva of the Gila monster -- but one that must be injected twice a day. The Food and Drug Administration approved Byetta, known chemically as exenatide, the first in a new class of medications for Type 2 diabetes -- but for now, it's supposed to be used together with older diabetes drugs, not alone.
